Hi my JTS is from May 2003 and has the oil consuption problem, i fill it up with 1l every 1000km. Ive collected a couple of 147 manual versions with stiff gear linkage and discovered through these threads that the plastic bushes by the linkage on the gearbox end can need replacing fixing the problem, takes about an hour costing peanuts which is what ive done to good effect. P.
Ona JTS it could well be the 'pedal' sensor. There is no idle control stepper motor on later cars, they are fully drive by wire and the entire throttle movement is controlled by motor, not just the initial idle control movement. I personally believe the issue is with the plug at the pedal and the next one along the loom.
Soundslike it, it's a safety feature that if that sensor fails the fans will come on automatically. Engine management light will probably be the sensor failure code. It may not have failed though, check the connector first, not sure where the sensor is on yours, but they're usually attached to the thermostat. hasmac.
